The September show was another special night at Smashbox Studios. Lots of laughter, drinking and randomness. Great performances by Dana Gould, Arden Myrin, Andy Peters, The Walsh Brothers and Garfunkel & Oates. Definitely a memorable night for all who attended. Andy Peters will get you. Where you sit, stand or hide. Wherever. Peters is a stand-up comedian who enjoys getting to the audience like no other. Along with his typically irreverant topics, he has the skills to go off script and still get the laughs. Fearless and often off-the-cuff, Peters has toured the country performing in both big cities and small towns. He won the Rocky Mountain Laugh-Off, was a Finalist in the Seattle International Comedy Competition and participated in the San Francisco Comedy Competition, D.C. Comedy Fest, and Boston Comedy Festival.
After years as a stand-out in the Seattle comedy scene, Peters now calls Los Angeles his home. Get to know Andy Peters at this week's Super Serious Show. There's a good chance he'll get to know you, too.
Straight out of Boston, Chris and David Walsh are the always unique comedic duo The Walsh Brothers. They've been here for years and bring the funny like few others. The Walsh Brothers don't fit into a pre-labled comedy box. They mix stand-up, sketch and all around randomness to entertain audiences.
Started in 2003, The Walsh Brothers Great & Secret Comedy Show became an underground sensation in the Boston comedy scene. The brothers brought the show to the 2006 Aspen Comedy Festival, which garnered them high praise. After years of leading the Boston comedy scene, The Walsh Brothers made their way to Los Angeles. They quickly achieved must-see status. A Walsh Brothers show is like no other - their vaudevillian style and frequent audience interactions keep you guessing. Get ready for your dose of Walsh Brothers tomfoolery at The Super Serious Show this week.
File Arden Myrin under the automatically funny category. Myrin's been popping up in movies and television shows for awhile now and always makes a mark. She'll be making a special live appearance at this month's Super Serious Show. Mryin is one of the best sketch and improv comedic actors working today. Catching a liver performance from Myrin is sure to be a treat.
Arden Myrin gained notoriety as a regular cast member on MADtv. She also appeared on such hit shows as Friends, Reno 911, Just Shoot Me, Gilmore Girls, Kitchen Confidential, and more. Her film credits include Kinsey, The Lucky Ones, What Women Want, Deconstructing Harry, The Imposters, Autofocus, and The Informant. Myrin is a frequent talk show guest with appearances on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Howard Stern, Chelsea Lately, Loveline, among others.
Myrin is a founding member of the long-form improv team "God Squad" IOWest at IOWest in Los Angeles. The heradled group started in 2001. Myrin also has roots at Upright Citizen Brigade Theatre and The Groundlings.

It's time to get serious about BBQ in Los Angeles. The search for great BBQ in the City of Angels is over. Spring Street Smokehouse is the real deal. Smokehouse has a great down-to-earth restaurant (640 N Spring St, Los Angeles, CA 90012) in Chinatown. One of the great dining discoveries in the area. As a bonus, they launced their own food truck this year. The Spring Street Smokehouse food truck brings some of the best menu items from the restaurant to the streets of Los Angeles.

The mischievous musical comedy duo, Garfunkel & Oates are joining The Super Serious Show this month! The band is made up of actresses and all-around talents, Kate Miccuci and Riki Lindhome. Since 2009, Garfunkel & Oates has been making their mark in the comedy world and pop culture at large. Their songs and performances combine deft humor, intelligence, smiling personas, as well as not-always-safe-for-work lyrics. Don't let the sometimes off-color talk trick you. Muccuci and Linkhome are truly some of the nicest people working in comedy today.
Their homespun couch videos and clever songs helped garner early national attention, including their popular song "Pregnant Women Are Smug." Garfunkel & Oates has many comedy festival appearances and several Television appearances, highlighted by several spots on The Jay Leno Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
In 2009 they released their first album, Music Songs. The album is a fun collection of their musical comedy.
We've had the pleasure of having Garfunkel & Oates play at some of our non-Super-Serious shows - in their early days. They always bring it. Crowd pleasers all the way. It's a real treat to have them join in the fun at the new Super Serious Show. Grab your tickets here.

We're excited to announce a new partnership with Eagle Rock Brewery for this month's show. Eagle Rock Brewery is a great do-it-yourself success story still in it's early years but already a growing success. It is the first brewery operation to do business from Los Angeles in over 60 years. Veteran stand-up comedian and Emmy winning writer (The Simpsons), Dana Gould is taking the reigns of The Super Serious Show this month. Gould's comedy is smart and grounded, always blurring the line between himself and the audience. We're in for a treat.
Originally from Massachusetts, Dana Gould started his comedy career during the late 1980's comedy club boom. He's now a nationwide favorite with both audiences and his fellow comedians. Gould has several HBO Specials under his belt. His other TV credits include appearances on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Late Show with David Letterman, Seinfeld and writing and performing on The Ben Stiller Show. Gould spent much of this decade as a producer and writer for The Simpsons. He recently left the show to return to stand-up comedy.
Gould released his first stand-up DVD in 2009, the wry Let Me Put My Thoughts In You.

Thanks to the other super talented comedians - Tom Segura, Kumail Nanjiani, Mike Phirman, Sean Clements and Dominic Dierkes. The talented Director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, treated us to a special sneak peak of his upcoming new Comedy Central show, Mash Up.
Thanks to the great crowd who arrived early and stayed 'til the end with super energy and laughter. Not too mention they were very thirsty.
The show had a new studio space at Smashbox. The new space added to the relaxed, fun vibe during the pre-show festivities. We had quite a busy pre-show gathering with sweet music from DJ R-Rated and everyone digging the delicious food from Mandoline Grill and J-Squared Bakery.
A final thanks to Smashbox and our amazing crew who helped make the night Super Serious. We're looking forward to our next show and adventure!
Sean Clements and Dominic Dierkes, two young and talented comedians joined forces this Summer to create Time for Water, a fearless sketch show that "explores the human experience." They performed the full show at this summer's acclaimed Montreal Just For Laughs Festival. Now Sean and Dominic are bringing some of the highlights to The Super Serious Show. Their promotion of the show states "all aspects of the human experience will be fearlessly explored." Add funny to the profound and I think we're in for a treat.
Starting in New York City, Sean and Dominic have performed together for several years. Sean got his start at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City (UCBTNY). He wrote for MTV's Popzilla and appeared on The Colbert Report and 30 Rock.
Dominic Dierkes is member of the standout comedy group DERRICK Comedy. DERRICK Comedy has a slew of popular internet sketch videos, a several year run of successful UCBNY shows and a sneaky-good self-made independent feature comedy, Mystery Team, under its belt. He now lives in Los Angeles. You can now see him popping up in numerous UCBTLA shows every month.
Sean and Dominic are two of the best sketch performers working today. Get your tickets to catch the up and coming talented duo this week.
Mike Phirman is back at the show for the first time. I swear that makes sense.
After losing Mike to Canada last month, we're lucky to quickly cash in our Mike Phirman raincheck stub. Fresh off his Montreal Just For Laughs Festival appearance, Mike will be bringing his awesome musical comedy back to Los Angeles at The Super Serious Show. We're excited. You should be, too. Tom Segura is a comedian, I mean like a real comedian. No faking the funk over here. Always funny and always armed with a slew of new takes on his life and the stupidity in the world, Tom deftly mixes high and low brow topics. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want you to think too highly of him but Tom is one of the most respected comedians working today. Check him out at the August show.
He's usually off touring the nation at clubs and festivals. It's a real treat to have Tom at our next show. His TV appearances include Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, Showtime's Russell Peters Presents, BET's One Mic Stand and CBS' Gary Unmarried. He also pops up on the acclaimed radio show, The Bob and Tom Show.
Tom released a great comedy album, Thrilled, this year. In addition to the awesome album, it also comes with one of the best album covers ever.

The always funny and high energy Matt Braunger is taking over the Super Serious Show in August - hosting and headlining. We can't wait.
Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Matt Braunger started his comedy life in Chicago and now resides in Los Angeles. Matt is an actor and comedian with a ton of credits, including a series regular on MADtv, Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, The Late Show with David Letterman, United States of Tara, Pushing Daises, Live At Gotham and more. Matt also is a comedy festival favorite, with past performances at Just For Laughs Montreal, Just For Laughs Chicago, The TBS Comedy Festival Las Vegas, South By Southwest and won the 2008 “Best Of The Fest” at the inaugural Rooftop Comedy Festival in Aspen.
In 2009, Variety named Matt one of their Top 10 Comics to Watch. 2009 also saw the release of Matt's debut comedy album, Soak Up The Night.
Matt also co-hosts one of our favorite comedy podcasts, MATT's Radio. Matt's one of our favorite comedians today and will surely make the Super Serious Show his own this month.

We'll be showing some great Birthday Boys videos at the show this week. The Birthday Boys are one of the best sketch groups in LA and probably the whole country. They're smart and funny and likeable...which is really weird. While we missed out on seeing them live at our show this month, they make some mean videos. Comedy film director Adam McKay and Los Angeles Times have given them props in recent months. We're guessing it's only the start of bigger things. Come see their new video plus a few favorites at the show this Thursday.

The Birthday Boys have a monthly show at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles. Here's one of our favorite Birthday Boys vidoes.
One of our favorite musicians/comedians, Kirk Zipfel, is stepping up and filling the music gap at The Super Serious Show this month. Kirk is full of energy and has music skills coming out of his bum. Kirk abides by a strong no-douche policy. We can get behind that. He's one of LA's best musical comedians and is bringing the fury to our July show at Smashbox Studios Culver City.
Check out his stuff in the meantime. As Kirk puts it, he "will melt you like a Bolivian glacier."
Sadly, we'll be missing out on the sweet music and comedy of Mike Phirman this month. Mike won't be able to make the Super Serious Show. It seems the Canadians needed him more. The great annual comedy fest Montreal Just For Laughs booked him to perform this week. Very exciting for Mike. We couldn't be happier that he was so cool that Canada stole him from us.
We'll be sure to have Mike join the show in the future. If you can't wait, buy his album and pine away. That's what we'll be doing.
We have another great comedian in our July 15th lineup - Nigel Lawrence. Nigel has written and starred in his own comedy specials for CTV and The Comedy Network. He's also performed at the Just For Laughs Comedy festival and has numerous TV appeareances, including Comedy Central's Live at Gotham and Chelsea Lately on E! Television.
Nigel is a great comedic storyteller and always brings a fresh and charismatic approach to his comedy every time he performs. And Nigel gets bonus points for being Canadian. I think that's a positive, right?
